Coyoacan - Frieda's Home, Marketplaces and Hippies

Once an independent city, now a part of ever-sprawling Mexico City, Coyoacan has been known as a marketplace for nearly 600 years. Jan did her part, buying 54 hand-blown glasses, one water picture and one large vase during our day in the village. She called it a "good start" towards our Mexican glassware collection.

Mariana and Adriana, our hosts for the day, showed us Coyoacan's main square where the children of the area's hippies sell new-age handicrafts. (I can feel the power of the rocks already!) Many people go to Coyoacan just to see the Frida Kahlo museum, known as the "Blue House", on the corner of Allende and Londres. This house was the birthplace and periodic residence of the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. I didn't have my good camera with me, so we saved the museum for next time---which will likely be soon, since Coyoacan is only 45 minutes away!
