Teotenango

Teotenango, "at the place of the divine wall," was first occupied sometime between 750-900 AD. Preceding Teotenango was a site known as Ojo de Agua, which was influenced by emigrants from Teohihuacan, who influenced pottery and architecture. Between 900-1200 AD, Teotenango blossomed with new buildings and pyramids. The ball court was built sometime between 1200 and 1476. In 1476, the city was conquered by the Aztecs, who imposed payments of tribute and established a military garrison to control this part of the Toluca valley.
