Puerto Vallarta remained a small fishing village until 1963, when director John Houston decided to film, "Night of the Iguana" starring Ava Gardner & Richard Burton, here. Elizabeth Taylor flew down to be with Richard Burton in one of the most famous Hollywood affairs of the time. Both actors purchased homes in Puerto Vallarta, which were connected by a small bridge.
Puerto Vallarta now has over 250,000 inhabitants, and welcomes more than 1.5 million visitors annually. Despite its popularity and the recent flurry of new resort developments, the city retains much of its "old Mexico" flair. The city is graced with lovely architecture, cobblestone streets, and white stucco buildings crowned by flower-covered balconies and red-tile roofs.

The town of Tequila is in the state of Jalisco. All of the tequila in the world is bottled here. We arrived on the first day of the new year to find a sleepy little town. Everything was closed, due to the party the night before.
We had one evening in Guadalajara, but I can see why lovers of Mexican colonial architecture flock to this city.
