Edzna, Mayan Ruins near Campeche This Mayan city was founded around 600 to 300 BC as a small agricultural community. Edzna reached its peak between 600 and 900 AD as a regional Mayan capital. Over the years, an important hydraulic system of aqueducts, holding tanks and canals were developed. The ruins were discovered in 1906, with initial restoration begun in 1927. However, recently new restoration projects have been completed in Edzna.
